What does "creative life"
mean to you?
Does it mean absinthe drinking men in Paris painting naked women?
Does it mean a thick glass-wearing woman typing away
at a big black typewriter?
Ballerinas getting up at 5am to warm up their muscles?
How about housewives meeting for "scrap booking?"
At Creative Life Studios, it simply means doing whatever you love until you lose track of time. Over and over, "artists" write in their how-to books that once you find your muse, time will melt away before you know it. It's true. Whenever I sit down to paint, read or garden, time gets away from me. I am always disappointed when I look up, the sun is setting and I have to put away my gloves and trowel.
What do you love to do?
What makes you forget time and life's worries?
Creative Life Studios purpose is to give a relaxed, stress-free environment for anyone who has the desire to pursue, or find, their creative muse.
No strict guidelines, no fees, no previous experience required.
In fact, nothing at all is required except the desire itself.
THE DREAM:
Creative Life Studios is a dream. Both figuratively and in realty. The actual studio building is still a dream away, but it started with a real, very vivid, dream. While I have always dreamed of living the carefree "artist" life like Monet and Degas, the dream that came earlier this year showed me how I could live that life in modern day reality.
My dream began with a panoramic view of a building - a specific building (I can't tell you which one b/c I'm still awaiting for the FOR SALE sign to appear in the window!) The building is an old brick building in downtown. The walls are exposed bricks, the floors worn dark wood - the space open and expanse. The vision takes me thought the entire space, laying out where each station will be, what it will contain and even what furniture I will place there. The upper floor is divided into two areas. Along the front, with wide, clear, windows is the open work area. Painter's easels, cushy chairs with books, portable desks with writers space, a crafter's area....all open for individuals and their creative portable studios. The back area is a lounge area with areas for lunch or relaxing. During the days, upstairs will be available for individuals and their muse, with classes and groups in the evenings. Downstairs will be an art supply shop and a book store.
My dream is still just a dream, but it has given me the blueprint to get started. One of these days you will drive by my studio and say "wow - Creative Life Studios- dreams really do come true!"
Until then, I've begun the first step by hosting creative nights at my house once a month. It is an open group. You can come for creative advice, to learn a new medium, or just to watch......whatever you need.
CREATIVE NIGHT
DETAILS AND FAQs
There are three ways to participate.
1. Bring your own art supplies and work. Sometimes you just need a break from home to actually have time to paint, draw, scrapbook - whatever you enjoy. Use this time to be productive and receive tips and advice from others. ANY craft or artist medium is welcome.
2. Come to try a new medium. Have you always wanted to learn to paint? Need some tips on finishing stamping cards? Want to try pastels or watercolors? Bring some paper and use other's materials to try your hand at something new. You may find you are the next Degas!
3. Just stop by and take it all in. We are a group of moms just like you and we are open to everyone! You do not have to stay the entire time - come anytime and stay as long or as little as you like. You don't have to try anything. You can just watch and talk with others.
There is no fee for this time in the "studio." Instead of a membership fee, all members are asked to donate art supplies, paper towels or other items to share. Easels, tables and chairs are provided. If you have extra brushes, paints, scrapbook material, etc to share - bring it and we will use it! Also, we recommend that you wear old clothing as some mediums are messy!
Available mediums: Oil painting, watercolor paints & pencils, pastels, acrylics, pencil and charcoals, scrap booking & stamping, mosaics, writing techniques (journaling) and more.
CHARITY/RECYCLE DRIVE
Each month everyone is also asked to bring an item to donate or recycle. IT IS NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND. Items such as toilet paper rolls, plastic grocery bags and yogurt containers are accepted.
One final note: Please be aware that my studio is actually in my home. I have a large garage with plenty of counter top space, cabinets, concrete floors that can take ANY mess, and a sink. I provide all the tables and chairs.
Can't wait to see you there. PLEASE RSVP! Email me here and I will send you the RSVP page with directions and a phone number.
It will help up prepare for the next gathering.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Many of you have asked about bringing your children along. Right now, this is an adult -only time where moms can have a few hours without the children to be productive and have fun. We occasionally do have a children's night where the kids can create holiday crafts and experiment themselves with different mediums.
You are welcome to bring as many friends with you as you like. We are open to everyone!
I have been asked about products for sale. Currently we do not offer any products for sale. All our supplies are donated by members like YOU and are free to everyone to use in the studio. While we do not promote any one product or brand, we do have a couple of members who sell various scrap booking and stamping supplies and I encourage you to ask them directly during the evening. In the future, I do plan to add an art supply inventory for purchasing.
If you are interested in demonstrating a particular craft or medium, please email me here.
Food and Beverages - I usually provide a light snack and coffee. You are welcome to bring your own appetizers or desserts to share, but please keep it light. If you would like to bring your own wine or other drink of choice, you may do so.
Since we are a non-profit group we do need some supplies donated. Here is a partial list of needed supplies:
Paper Towels
Disposable plates, napkins, plastic cups and coffee cups
Water bottles
Trash bags
Cleaning spray for tables (Windex, etc)
Coffee condiments such as creamer, sugar, stirrers, etc.
Art paper
New or used brushes, paints, craft supplies, scrap booking materials - all of these will be kept in a supply closet for each month's event.
Tables and chairs
We also LOVE recycled materials such as the styro plates your fruit is packaged on, clean soup cans and other items suitable to hold paints/liquids/small items
If you have any questions, requests, ideas or general comments, please email me here or go to our FACEBOOK page. It's is a great way to communicate with other members to share ideas, get advice and learn more about us!
